Cork covers a compact city with strong connections and a very large county where broadband varies from excellent to marginal within a few kilometres. Advice that treats them as the same place is not much use to either.

In the city: the building, not the broadband
Cork city connections are generally good. What causes trouble is the same as in any older Irish urban area: solid walls, converted houses, routers in hallways and too many wireless networks competing in one street.
- Move the television onto the 5 GHz band before changing anything else.
- If the router is in a hall cupboard, get it out into the open.
- A short cable to the main television beats any wireless upgrade.
In the county: the line itself
Outside the city the variable is the connection rather than the house. Fixed wireless and older copper lines behave very differently from fibre, and no amount of good setup compensates for a line that cannot sustain the throughput.
- Run a speed test at 20:30 on a weekday, not at lunchtime.
- Watch for the connection dropping rather than for the headline speed.
- Start with a single month, and only commit long-term once it has proven itself.

Often yes, but test it honestly. Buy a single month, watch during peak evening hours for a fortnight, and judge from that. If your line struggles, you will know for €15 rather than for €65.
Does weather really affect a fixed wireless connection?
It can, depending on the technology and the terrain between you and the mast. If your broadband already misbehaves in heavy rain, live streaming will amplify that rather than hide it.
Do you charge more outside Dublin?
No. The price is the same everywhere in Ireland, because nothing about delivering a subscription changes with your address. Anyone charging a regional premium for a digital service should be asked why.
