Setup
IPTV installation guide for Irish homes
Written for a real Irish house: a router in the hall, a television two rooms away and someone who would like this working before the match starts. Follow it in order and it takes about fifteen minutes.
Preparation
Before you start
Five minutes here removes most of the problems that would otherwise take an hour to sort out later.
Have these to hand
- The login details we sent you after payment
- Your Wi-Fi password, if the device is not already online
- The remote control for the television and for the streaming box
- Ten to fifteen uninterrupted minutes
Check these first
- The device is connected to the internet and can open a normal streaming app
- The television firmware is up to date, if it prompts you
- Nobody else in the house is downloading something large right now
- You know which HDMI input the streaming device is plugged into
Installation
Installing the player and signing in
-
Open the app store on your device
That is the Google Play Store on Android TV, the Amazon Appstore on a Fire TV Stick, the App Store on Apple TV, or the built-in store on a Samsung or LG television.
-
Install the player we named in your setup message
We tell you which player to use for your specific device rather than leaving you to guess. Install that one and nothing else, because extra players cause confusion later.
-
Enter the details exactly as sent
Character by character, including capitals. Typing errors on a remote control are the single most common cause of a login that will not work. If there is a QR code option, use it.
-
Let the channel list load fully
The first load takes noticeably longer than every load afterwards, because the guide is being downloaded. Leave it alone until it finishes rather than restarting the app.
-
Set up your favourites straight away
Mark the channels your household actually watches. Five minutes now saves everyone in the house scrolling every evening for the next year.
If a step does not match what is on your screen, stop and message us rather than working around it. Devices differ, and we would rather correct the instructions than have you improvise.

Network
Getting the network right, which matters more than the app
Irish housing stock is hard on Wi-Fi. Solid walls, long hallways and routers installed wherever the phone socket happens to be. This is where most faults actually live.
A cable beats everything
If you can run an ethernet cable from the router to the television, do it. A five euro cable outperforms any Wi-Fi improvement you can make.
Use the 5 GHz band
If the television is in the same room as the router, connect it to the 5 GHz network. It is faster and far less congested in built-up areas like Dublin.
Move the router, not the television
A router in a hall cupboard behind a solid door is fighting the building. Even moving it out into the open makes a measurable difference.
First evening
Test it properly, not for two minutes
- Watch something for a continuous twenty minutes rather than flicking through channels.
- Do it between 7pm and 10pm, when your connection is under real load.
- Try one live channel and one on-demand film, because they behave differently.
- Note whether problems happen on every channel or only on one. That single detail tells us where the fault is.
Stuck halfway through?
Send a photo of what is on the screen. We can usually identify the problem from the picture alone and reply with the exact next step.
Troubleshooting
The five faults we see most, and what causes them
Work down this table before contacting us and you will often fix it yourself in under a minute.
| What you see | Usual cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Buffering on every channel | The connection between the router and the device. | Move to 5 GHz, or run a cable. Restart the router if it has been on for months. |
| Buffering on one channel only | That particular source, not your setup. | Tell us which channel and roughly what time. That is genuinely useful information for us. |
| The guide will not load | An older device running out of memory. | Close other apps, restart the device, and consider a streaming stick if it repeats. |
| Login rejected | A typing error, usually a capital letter or the digit one against a lowercase L. | Retype it slowly. If it still fails, send us a screenshot and we will check the account. |
| Sound but no picture | A player setting, or an HDMI handshake problem. | Unplug the HDMI, restart the device, and change the decoder setting in the player if we advised one. |
Help is quick
Nobody should have to fight their own television
If any step here does not go the way it is written, send us a photo of the screen. Setup help is included in every plan and does not cost anything extra.
